Learning from classical Japanese masters and contemporary poets, Terry Ann Carter will lead a haiku writing workshop. Beginning with the basic elements of North American English haiku, then moving to haiku with a theme of love, this workshop will appeal to beginners as well as more advanced poets. Techniques, style, and editing skills will be covered in the morning workshop. After lunch, participants will make a “Book of Hearts” for favourite haiku.

An Evening of Japanese Poetic Forms: From the Tokaido Road to the World Stage
Part of the Word Vancouver Festival. at the Haiku North America Conference. Join poets Terry Ann Carter, Rachel Enomoto, and Kozue Uzawa in a discussion of the Japanese poetic forms: haiku, tanka, and haibun. Terry Ann Carter will read from her new book, Tokaido (Red Moon Press), which uses the poetic form haibun to traverse the Tokaido, the ancient pilgrimage between Kyoto and Tokyo, its fifty-three stations, and artist Hiroshige’s eponymous woodblock prints.
